“Oh, for heaven’s sake!” Alex protested, ducking under a blast from Blackburn’s latest technological weapon meant to hold a fair fight with his supernatural abilities.  “You could kill someone, Calynn!” he shouted over the din of screaming civilians and mass destruction.
“I’m not killing anyone!” she shouted back.  “It’s only gonna affect you!  What kind of savage do you think I am?  I could accidentally hit Cole!”
Alex flew up into the air to avoid her next few strikes.  “Dammit, couldn’t you wait another couple minutes?”
“And let this perfect opportunity pass me by?” she cackled.
“It’s your brother’s birthday!” Alex yelled back.  “And I’m gonna be late to the party!  Can’t we just postpone this?”
“Oh, the party’s not today,” she informed him with a wicked grin.  “I just let you believe that to lure you out where I could get to you easily!”
“Civillains, Calynn!  Civilians!”
Calynn shrugged and fired her plasma ray again.  “Like I said.  It only affects you.”
Alex swooped in, limiting her range and redirected his flight momentum into a powerful kick that sent her staggering across the street.  “If the party isn’t today, then when is it?”
Calynn stood up and wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth.  “As if I’d tell you!”
With a well-placed jab, Alex sent the newly developed weapon skidding across the pavement.  “You realize I can just text Cole, right?”
She cackled again.  “And that’s where you’re wrong, Mr. Victor!  I have successfully hacked his phone.  Any message or communication from you will never reach him.  And anything he tries to send you will go to me and I’ll reply, letting him think he reached you!  He’ll never know!”
Alex pinned her hands behind her back and cuffed them together.  “You’re never gonna get over the fact that he chose to be my sidekick and not yours, are you?”
“He’s my brother!” she shrieked.
“And you’re the bad guy,” Alex sighed for the umpteenth time.  “Can you blame him for having morals?”  He gave a little gesture to the police officers standing back behind their patrol cars and they came forward to apprehend her.
“You haven’t seen the last of me!” she threatened as they put her in the backseat of the car.
“Yeah, yeah,” Alex sighed.  “I’m guessing you’ll be out of jail by tonight, just in time to foil my date?”
“You bet!  See you later!”
He sighed and gave an exasperated wave as the car drove off.
